Accountability? What accountability? I don’t know any accountability.

Seems Canada’s governing party is getting some flack from an independant watchdog for doing exactly what they’ve been criticising the liberals for–not telling folks exactly what they’re planning to do, and where they’re planning to do it, with the stimulous money they’re rolling out. For their part, the conservatives are maintaining they’re being perfectly transparent, posting projects as they’re released–the specifics of which the liberals are still arguing–to their action plan website.

Just one minor little niggling problem. There’s about a 68% difference between what the liberals say is being spent and what the conservatives, in the media and on their website, say is being spent. Somebody’s lying, and with a shortfall of fifty-six billion dollars and probably climbing, it’s a lie that really needs to be stepped on, and extremely quickly–by whichever of the two is doing it. And, Stephen? Do yourself a favour and announce everything. Not just the projects scheduled for construction in 2010. If it’s on the table, put it on the website. It’ll save you a hell of a headache. Oh, and, Michael? If you’re going to criticise spending, do it from somewhere that isn’t already scheduled to be torn up to have something else built there. You’ve managed to make yourself look rather like an idiot instead. Which might actually be what you were going for–I don’t know, but that would be consistent.
