And this time, it’s a double-whammy of stupid. Stupid the first, Staten Island construction workers remove a manhole cover, and then decided it might be a good idea to go and get the safety cones/markers to section off the area in which they’d be working. Enter stupid the second, we’ll call her miss Texty Walky, otherwise known as Alexa Longueira. She’s going along, minding her own business, paying more attention to the text message she’s sending than where she’s putting her feet, and… oops. Miss Texty Walky, meet manhole. Fortunately her injuries were minor–a few scrapes on her back and arms, and a less than attractive muck stain on her clothes, but that’s about it. For her parents’ part in it, though, they now plan to sue for her injuries. Which–okay–they might have a legal leg to stand on. But hopefully she’s also lost her phone priveleges for a while. Open manhole or not, if you’re gonna wander around city streets and not have a clue where you’re going, you deserve my special branded moron of the year award. And if I lived in Staten Island, she’d get it delivered in person.
